The average life expectancy of a Canadian woman is 83.9 years. ( it’s 81.3 for the average man, but I only know exceptional men ) According to the math that I learned in Grade 4 with Mr Jackson at Mount Crescent Elementary, 83.9( the average age) -64.5 (my age) = 19.4 That’s less than 20 years remaining and if my math is correct 76% of my life is behind me. If my life were a yard stick I would be standing at 27 and one third inches, 9 and ⅔ inches before the end.
If I were in an NFL game I would be starting the 4th quarter. I’m a big Kansas City Chiefs fan and over the last few years I’ve seen Patrick Mahomes do some pretty amazing things in the last quarter of the game - Super Bowl LIX excepted. Mahommes always runs the ball to get the third down when there’s no one to pass to or orchestrates a flea flicker with the running back or throws long to have it drop out of the sky into Kelsey's arms.
Patrick is the GOAT.
I've been playing a lot of chess recently, focussing on my end game. I’m discovering that even when I lose most of my pieces there is no need to panic. There is still elegance in the waiting and playing out the cat and mouse, back and forth , scissoring the opponent's King into resignation. Even though the game is coming to an end there is always an opportunity for surprise.
This week's surprise is learning to type. No more “ 2 finger hunt and peck” for me. I’m finally going to do it. Some would say that’s a waste of half an inch of my yardstick but I’m having a lot of fun.
Also, this blog took 3 hours to type.
